Impact & Advisory Manager, Accounting - Sydney

Impact & Advisory Manager, Accounting

Sefa helps impact-led organisations do more good through expert, tailored advisory services and responsible finance solutions. Since 2011, we've walked side by side with our clients, providing them with the support, confidence and capital they need to grow their impact.

We ask bold questions, challenge old thinking and back the organisations working hard to build a fairer future. Our values – Togetherness, Integrity, Champion and Innovation – are woven through everything we do. We care deeply about the work we do and the people we do it with.

As a team, we’re all about doing good and having a good time doing it! We’re a diverse group of avid tea drinkers and coffee connoisseurs with a strong case of wanderlust. You’ll find us in deep and meaningful conversations, always learning from each other. We balance our weekly team gatherings with a healthy love of chocolate – and we’re not afraid to stand out. Look for the splash of colour and you’ll find us!

Above all, we know the work that goes into creating real impact, and we’re united in backing those bold enough to build it, now and into the future.

We’re looking for an experienced Impact & Advisory Manager to help social enterprises, not-for-profit organisations and other for-purpose businesses understand their financial position, strengthen their financial management and build the capability needed to make confident decisions about growth and investment.

About the role

As Impact & Advisory Manager – Business Advisory & Accounting, you’ll sit within Sefa’s multidisciplinary Impact & Advisory team and lead accounting and financial advisory engagements from scoping through to delivery. You’ll work alongside purpose-driven organisations to strengthen financial management practices, improve reporting and translate complex financial information into practical advice.

In practice, that means you will:

  • Provide practical accounting and business advice – help clients understand their financial position, performance, risks and priorities.

  • Strengthen financial management – support budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management, scenario analysis and financial planning.

  • Improve reporting and financial processes – develop fit-for-purpose management accounts, reporting approaches, templates, controls and implementation plans.

  • Apply technical accounting knowledge – review financial information and apply relevant Australian Accounting Standards and reporting requirements within the scope of Sefa’s services.

  • Lead accounting-focused engagements – manage financial workstreams, coordinate contributions and review deliverables for technical accuracy and quality.

  • Build client capability – explain financial information in plain language and support finance staff, leaders and boards to use it with confidence.

About you

You’ll bring at least five years’ relevant experience, strong technical accounting capability and a practical approach to helping organisations make informed decisions. You’ll be comfortable working independently within a small, multidisciplinary team while managing multiple priorities and building trusted client relationships.

You’ll thrive if you:

  • Have experience in accounting, business services or business advisory, ideally within public practice or professional services.

  • Bring strong technical accounting capability, including preparing or reviewing financial statements, management accounts and financial reports.

  • Have sound working knowledge of relevant Australian Accounting Standards, including not-for-profit income recognition and ACNC reporting requirements.

  • Are experienced in budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management, financial modelling and performance analysis.

  • Can review and improve financial processes, internal controls, systems and reporting quality.

  • Exercise sound professional judgement and recognise when specialist technical, taxation, legal or regulatory advice is required.

  • Can explain financial matters clearly and present findings, risks and recommendations to boards, directors and senior leaders.

This is a unique opportunity to join a passionate team at the intersection of capability and capital, helping impact-led organisations become stronger, more sustainable and better prepared to grow their impact.
